JOHN - PHILOSOPHER
Nine is a community for coliving and coworking on the beautiful island of Tenerife, Spain. During their stay, we ask our Digital Nomads to share their stories.
What’s your background?
I was a manager, I was a nurse, I was a counsellor, father, husband. I have a master’s degree, I worked very hard and now I’m retired.
How long have you been working remote and what are you currently working on?
Unlike the people here I had a very traditional job, I never really worked remotely. Now that I’m retired, I’m travelling and working very hard on learning Spanish. I spend almost 40 hours a week studying.
Why do you think Tenerife and the Canary island is a good destination for digital nomads?
Wow where do I start! From here, just from Nine colliving you can be up in the mountains hiking in half an hour and you can be down at the beach in about 15-20 min. You don’t even need a car, everything is just right here and the busses are so reliable. It’s pretty cheap, the weather is pleasant and although there are so many things to do around here, sometimes I just don’t want to leave this house, it’s so beautiful!
What is your favorite thing about Nine Coliving?
There’s so much space. No matter where you go it will always be easier to connect with some people rather than others, but here even if you don’t connect with anyone, it is still great because there’s so much space it wouldn’t even be a problem. We have about a 100 square meters per person - can you believe it? That’s how much space we have!
Everybody here is nice, polite, well-behaved. The place is so clean. Anne is very sweet to have around. Also everyone seems to be the enjoying the yoga classes in the morning, but let me tell you a secret - when the yoga is going on I have the house all to myself!
Everything is so close - you can be in the supermarket in 3 minutes. It’s also really great having the breakfast, because you don’t have to do anything, you just wake up and breakfast is there , everything is organised for you. It’s a really nice balance of price vs quality.
