ALEX - DEVELOPER
Nine is a community for coliving and coworking on the beautiful island of Tenerife, Spain. During their stay, we ask our Digital Nomads to share their stories.
What’s your background?
I am a developer for 7 years now. I used to work fore quite some companies, creating websites and mobile apps, for insurance groups or TV channels. But after a few years, I was disappointed with how IT companies work. So I became a freelancer in 2018 to have a bit more freedom. Nomadic life started to interest me at that point, so when I had the chance to finally do it in the summer of 2019, I jumped at the chance.
How long have you been working remote and what are you currently working on?
I've been working remotely for about a year now. Right now I'm trying to change my career path, switching from coding to giving courses. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, my only client canceled my next contract, so I'm kind of forced to go that way anyway.
So I've been working on a website to help French developers to go freelance for a year now, and I just started a business to help French companies to deal with remote work, which they were not used to before the lockdown caused by the virus.
Why do you think Tenerife and the Canary island is a good destination for digital nomads?
First of all, the weather, obviously! Escaping the European winter was one of the reasons I came to Tenerife and I wasn't disappointed!
Also, the island itself is very rich. There is perfect spots for surfing or hiking, and just a few kilometers away from each other!
Locals are friendly and it's a good place to be if you want to learn/practice Spanish. Also, I had the chance to be here during the carnival, which was totally crazy!
What is your favorite thing about Nine Coliving?
Well, I arrived here the day before Spanish government announced the lockdown, so I don't really know what Nine looks like in normal conditions! It's not the first coliving space I’ve lived in, and they all have different vibes. Nine clearly has its own personality which is worth the try! The house is very big, convenient, and whether you're an introvert (like me) or not, you will fit in it.
Also, seeing Lara (the house dog) happily walking with her carrot in her mouth always cheers me up!
